The Adaptive Ecosystem:
Supporting and Sustaining the People Power Behind System Change

Hosted by Stepped Care Solutions
Following the Winter Learning Series which focused on Practical Solutions for Stepped Care Systems, this upcoming fall series zooms in on the workforce ecosystem.

System transformation is only as sustainable as the people driving it. In this two-session series, we explore how to move beyond “surviving” change toward a culture of collective wellbeing within an adaptive ecosystem.

From Individual Story to System Change: Mobilizing Mental Health Narratives Across the Spectrum

May 6, 2026 10:00 AM EST

Unsinkable and Stepped Care Solutions come together to explore the full arc of mental health storytelling — from individual experience to institutional transformation.

Moderated by Afreina Noor, this fireside conversation brings together perspectives across the storytelling spectrum — from lived experience to systems design — to examine how narratives shape both personal healing and institutional change.

The Winter 2026 Community of Practice (CoP) series is a three-part virtual learning experience designed for leaders, practitioners, and organizations implementing or exploring stepped care approaches in mental health and substance use health systems.

Across three focused sessions, participants will engage with SCS leaders, implementation experts, and system partners. Each session explores one essential dimension of designing and sustaining person-centred, equitable, and timely mental health and substance use health systems.

This series is intended to be attended as a complete set of three sessions to support continuity and applied learning.

We want to hear from service providers, to help shape new mental health and substance use health (MHSUH) services that are digitally-enabled, flexible and inclusive.

Stepped Care Solutions, in partnership with the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families and McMaster University’s School of Rehabilitation Science, is leading a project to co-design a digitally-enabled continuum of MHSUH supports and services for veterans and their families. This project is supported by Veterans Affairs Canada.

The goal is to create an accessible, flexible, and inclusive continuum of care, with a focus on the needs of veterans and family members who are women, 2SLGBTQI+, and Indigenous.

To gather feedback, we are hosting a workshop series for service providers and people working in the sector, specifically with families of veterans.

Synergy: The Future of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

On September 26th, we hosted our third webinar featuring Dr. Gillian Berry, Stepped Care Solutions’ (SCS) former Vice-President of Culture and Diversity, and Dr. Peter Cornish, Founder and former Senior Advisor at SCS.

They explored practices for fostering synergy and how these practices could inform future diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts. Attendees had ample opportunities to ask questions and participate in the discussion.

Paradigm Shift to Person-Centric Care

On April 5th we hosted our second webinar that was a conversation with Dr. AnnMarie Churchill, SCS’s President and Lead Executive Officer.

Dr. Churchill focused her talk on person-centric care, and infused tangible examples of how these practices can improve our mental health systems.

Attendees asked insightful questions which enhanced the discussion.

Reimagining Mental Health Systems

We are excited to share that we hosted our first webinar: Reimagining Mental Health Systems on January 31, 2023.

Our speaker was Dr. Peter Cornish, Founder of Stepped Care Solutions.

The discussion examined the need for diplomatic disruption in the mental health, addictions and substance use health systems. We also explored the challenges that social equity and person-centric thinking pose to the status quo in the current system.
