In 2025, NHS Wales launched a bold new mental health and wellbeing strategy focused on prevention, early access, and person-centred care. To help bring this vision to life, Stepped Care Solutions partnered with Welsh system leaders to lay the groundwork for adopting the Stepped Care 2.0® (SC2.0) model across all seven health boards.
Through a mix of in-person and virtual sessions, we trained over 175 people in the SC2.0 model and worked with stakeholders—including health board leadership, clinicians, and people with lived experience—to co-design an implementation roadmap rooted in collaboration, flexibility, and local context.
This work set the stage for transformative changes now underway in Wales as part of a 10-year strategy, including same-day mental health support and a new focus on a more open access system in which people are guided to the right support the first time, without delay. We are honored to be a partner in this ongoing transformation of a national mental health and substance use health system.

“The input from SCS has been invaluable to enable us to have a very strong start to the transformation of our mental health system in Wales. SCS has enabled us to develop a comprehensive understanding of the Stepped Care 2.0 model across stakeholders, consider how the model could address our strategic priorities and create a momentum and clear plan for implementation.” – Chris O’Connor, Clinical Lead, Strategic Programme for Mental Health, NHS Wales
