Stepped Care Solutions partnered with San José State University’s Student Wellness Center to implement SC2.0 through phased consultation, training, and support. After live virtual training and follow-up OAAT training and consultation, the university introduced same-day services alongside a plan for evaluation and continuous improvement.
Impact at a Glance
- Same-day services (appointments): 0→545 (new in 2024-25)
- Crisis sessions decreased: 266→4 (students no longer need to identify as “in crisis” to get timely help)
- Individual or couples therapy increased: 1,569→1,844
- Group therapy increased 50→57
When compared to the prior school year, these changes nearly doubled the number of students served in a single semester, while shifting campus culture toward timely, solution-focused care. Staff also reported greater efficiency and noted the gratitude expressed by students who could now access help without needing to frame their concerns as a crisis.
